PDA Reno Chapter was founded in September, 2012 by Gale Marie Audia. Judy Hess, PDA’s National Field Coordinator, came to Reno to help us launch our Chapter

We are a multi-age group that feels passionate about human rights and fight fiercely to protect democracy on all levels.

Our monthly meeting takes place on the second Tuesday of the month at 5:30 PM. Our attendance has increased dramatically since the last election and we now average about 35-40 members per meeting.

Our meetings usually begin with PDA updates and reports, followed by a guest speaker. Here is a list of some of our recent speakers: Catherine Cortez-Masto (prior to her Senate confirmation), Assemblyman Nelson Arauja, Allison Stephens, Washoe County Chair Person, Assemblyman Mike Sprinkle. Travis Miller of Great Basin Solar Coalition, Dough Goodman, author of the Nevada Election Modernization and Reform Act and we also offered a forum for local candidates to present their platforms.

PDA Reno Chapter has collaborated with various grass root movements and progressive organizations such as Progressive Leadership of Nevada, Move to Amend, NAACP, Organization for America and many others. We have sponsored and co-sponsored rallies and protests and have been very active in promoting the passage of the ERA. We encourage our members to become active participants in the Washoe Democratic Party.

We have not only participated in healthcare protests but have met with our Republican Congressional Representatives twice in the past 3 months, urging them to consider the benefits of moving towards universal health care. Our Chapter also religiously participates in PDA’s monthly letter drop at the local offices of Rep. Mark Amodei and our two Senators, currently Dean Heller Catherine Cortez Masto.

We have tabled at community events in order to promote PDA’s vision of social justice and we will continue to protest and resist any threat to our Republic and democracy.
